Hemiarthroplasty

  • Unipolar hemiarthroplasty

    • no longer used in USA


    Unipolar hemiarthroplasty. 


  • Bipolar hemiarthroplasty

    • Native acetabulum with cartilage remains
    • Large metallic cup size of native femoral head contains polyethylene component with articular cavity where metallic femoral head is locked into place.
    • Allows for 2 articular sites
    • Large metallic cup with native acetabulum
    • Metallic femoral head and polyethylene component
    • Reduces stress to native acetabulum
    • Metallic cup may move with respect to acetabulum
